Matt, where do I start, I simply can't express how much I currently and continually will miss you.
The irony is that I take home my newborn boy tomorrow on the same day and time that you are farewelled. Although I am not able to be physically there, I know that you know I am with you.
There is so much to celebrate about you, your kind spirit, compassion for those close to you, your quick witt and sense of humour, and the pure delight and endless love you have for your Emily.
You have supported me, belly laughed with me, opened up, and taken the piss out of me, and I you, since we night we first chinked glasses in early 2008, up until our last recent phone call just days before your devastating departure.
Some 'Mattastic' memories that bring me a smile include pulling beers together on my trip to sunny Mackay, cycling around Rottnest Island while whale spotting, you teaching me how to be a better horse whisperer and saving me from being thrown off mid river, Sydney sushi train sessions, Gold Coast adventures, it's endless, we had alot of fun and also shared and supported one another in times of despair. I challenged you and you me.
I know you would love the picture on your obituary - taken on a great Matt birthday! You were in a good place.
Despite your tendency toward the dark enemies of anxiety and depression you naturally opted to choose to always see the positive in every situation and worked so hard to push away the darkness when it drew you near. This Matt, was your best attribute, alongside your open and pure love for your beautiful 'cherub' Emily.
My heart goes out to your family especially your mum who I never had the pleasure of meeting, who you expressed so much protection and pride in, and love and gratitude for and of course your Emily.
Matt rest peacefully as I will always keep your memory alive and be so thankful to have had you in my life.
Love you Mattastic and am so glad I know you know this. One day we shall meet again.
We the ex staff of the Grove Hotel in Mackay send our sincerest condolences to Matt's daughter Emily, family and friends. I am holding a memorial for our Friend on Friday 3rd at 3pm for anyone that is unable to travel to his home town.
