I worked with Jean for many years at TAFE as her Head Teacher. Jean was a wonderful member of staff and I have so many memories of our time together. There were many funny incidences and I will always treasure our time together. My condolences to her family. Lea Buikstra

So lovely to hear from you, Lea. And thank you to you, Maralyn and Margaret for the flowers. We didn’t know how to get word to the TAFE friends so I’m pleased you got the news. Those were happy days for Mum working with you all.

My earliest memory of Aunty Jean is of her as a young single woman who seemed to me to have very modern clothes, who seemed very hip and modern (whatever that was at that time in Mendooran). I then remember Dad introducing her to his work colleague and telling him she had a wooden leg but not to mention it. The work colleague (who later became Uncle Arnold) told Dad how well she walked with a wooden leg. Dad was beside himself with glee at his successful practical joke. Many years later Aunty Jean placed an Ad in the gardening section of the local newspaper looking for cuttings of the 'pig face' plant. Dad couldn't resist and sent an anonymous letter with a photo of pig face. No surprises for guessing it was a photo of Aunty Jean. She was always very good at laughing at these jokes. My overall memories of her are that she always seemed to be extremely competent at everything she did - organising her home and garden, cooking meals for her large family, playing golf and dealing with relatives. Her family was everything. She experienced life with great joy and seemed always up for whatever was suggested. All of this was done with an infectious laugh that we will miss enormously
