Posts to the tribute of Elaine Marea Briggs

Apologies to all that I can’t attend Elaine’s funeral. My condolences to Elaine’s immediate and extended families, both Briggs and Sloane. I met Judith mid 2000 (at an exciting time leading up to the Sydney Olympic Games) and Elaine & Jim welcomed me into the family later in the year. There’s no doubt that Elaine had a determined view on many things and she & I had any number of robust discussions. I recall Jim saying on several occasions …. ‘Gees, you’re game going there!’ However, Elaine and I built up a great repour, where she later acknowledged I was her popular ‘son in law’. Like Judith & I, Elaine & Jim did a good number of overseas travels and many great stories were shared. I congratulate Elaine on her long-term support for the Country Women’s Association …. I hate to think of the number of hours she volunteered to the CWA and trust some members attend her funeral to honour her contribution. An interesting and varied life lived! Elaine, rest in peace and join your soul mate, Jim Kerry

Our deepest condolences to the Briggs & Sloane families, especially Aunty Elaine's children & their families. Aunty Elaine was a very social & friendly lady. She told some good yarns. Our late sister, Patricia, got on particularly well with Aunty Elaine. She would spend some of her recess & lunchtime chatting with Aunty Elaine, when they were at Nowra Primary School. Patricia's classmates were horrified. They thought Trish was in trouble with Mrs Briggs!!! Trish's response... No, Mrs Briggs is my Aunty! Aunty Elaine & Uncle Jim stayed with Chris & me, for a couple of days, while on their caravan trip across to WA. We lived in Port Lincoln at the time. It was a pleasure to be in their company. So sorry to hear of Elaine's passing. So many happy memories working with Elaine at Illaroo Road. RIP, Elaine.
