I first met Jimmy when he did some work on our renovations. I liked him from the first moment. One late afternoon, while he was still living in Haiser Road he rang me and asked me to have a look out on the river at the two blokes paddling a tinny with their hands. He asked is that your next door neighbours boys in that tinny because I know it is your neighbour’s tinny. I said no it’s not.
Jimmy said, I will pick you up and we will get in my (huge) punt and go out and get your neighbour’s tinny. Long story short, we got the tinny, dropped the young (white) intoxicated men back over at Orient Point. They were remorseful and bloodied from pushing themselves out of the oyster racks they had been blown into. Jimmy certainly was a man who went the extra yard to help everyone he could. I was so shocked to hear of his passing. May the God of peace which passes all understanding bring peace to all Jimmy’s loved ones during this time of mourning.
