I had the pleasure of spending many years with Bob and considered him to be my step-dad during the years I was a teenager. He was a very kind and gentle man, who always had a kind and encouraging word for me.
I have two favourite memories both of which still make me chuckle
Bob attempted to teach me how to drive and we had quite a bit of success. Under Bob's guidance and tuition I gained considerable confidence. On my last lesson with Bob, I took the corner from Cambewarra Road to Meroo Street with a little bit more speed than anticipated and overcorrected. I found myself on the opposite side of the road and into the path of an oncoming truck. Fortunately Bob grabbed the wheel and pulled us onto a safe course on the correct side of the road. The experience scared the living daylights out of both of us and he decided it might be best if I had lessons from a professional driver. He gave me a hard time for a couple of weeks but did get back in the car withme eventually.
My second memory of Bob was I took up bowling for school sport. I was good at most sports and thought that lawn bowls would be a breeze. Bob coached me for a little while, before categorically telling me "I wouldn't make a bowler's asshole" with the biggest smile on his face.
Rest In Peace Bob
Lots of love
