RIP Phil. Thanks for your service to the industry and your friendship to those who knew and worked with you. Taken too young, rest well, you've paid your dues.
I'll miss your smile and friendly face. Enjoy a drink at the big club in the sky.
Ron Browne.

Phil
You are a very special Aussie mate.
Only seems like yesterday when we first met in Christchurch - I recall around 1977/78 - you were working for a local accountant, and we were both studying for our Accountancy qualifications.
You were a natural with the numbers - with a sharp mind and generous with your time - happy to help out a struggling fellow student. I took to your can-do attitude and your dry sense of humour - we quickly became good friends.
Who could forget you in the passenger seat of my two-seater MGB - minus the seat belt! of course!
Although your stay in Christchurch was brief - as you headed back over the ditch to Wollongong - we stayed in touch all these years.
You kept in touch with the handwritten Christmas wishes and I was over the moon when you found a very special partner in Michelle and a kiwi as well! There were a lot of laughs when you and Michelle came to Christchurch last to catch up with Sarah and our family.
Special time Phil when we last caught up in Shoalhaven Heads in 2016. The Phil room for sports and the odd tipple was a winner. Drink in the local pub and missed the train back to Sydney - not a problem for Phil as you simply pumped the gas and drove me a considerable distance to a station to catch the next train!
Phil - will miss you mate. Aussie red with your name on it.
Take care my friend
Paul

My deepest condolences to the family of this gentle giant of a man.
I've only known you about 7 years, but I was deeply saddened & shocked to hear of your passing so young.
Phil, you gave me an opportunity to bring my various forms of entertainment to Culburra, which I am forever grateful. With each Singo, trivia or kids bingo going forward, you'll be in my thoughts

I am proud to say that I knew Phil Ryan for about thirty five years. I employed Phil as a Sub Assistant Manager at Kiama Leagues Club. Phil came to the Club from Windang Bowling Club and was a ready made Manager. He was an excellent Manager at Kiama and of course soon had an excellent manner with both members and visitors. I was extremely pleased to be able to recommend Phil to the Board of Nowra Bowling Club as their Manager. Not only did Phil excel at that Club the love of his life Michelle came into his life during his tenure there. Michelle improved Phil’s life and of course they were inseparable. It is history now how Phil continued to excel and promote himself in the Club Industry and this success has been franked by others thoughts contained in these memorials. Another great attribute of Phil’s was his support of his staff and again this is shown in these tributes. I find it extremely sad to lose such a great mate and Michelle I feel your pain. You have been a wonderful partner and wife to Phil and I hope these words are of comfort to you.

I had the pleasure to work with Phil when he joined the Culburra Bowling & Recreation Club Ltd as Chief Executive Officer in 2016. Over the past 3 years as President I came to appreciate just how well respected this big man was in the Hospitality Industry. His career spanned over 33 years & he achieved many accolades along the way, not the least being awarded Hall of Fame membership to the Australian Managers Association for his outstanding high level contribution & commitment to the industry. Over the past 3 years Phil has led by example & this was never more evident during the initial Covid-19 Pandemic forced closure of our Club as well as being nationwide. No one in the early stages knew what the future held, Phil managed the situation with a calm approach with the welfare of his staff foremost in his mind. Covid raised its ugly head again in 2021 & once again he led us as a Board through what needed to be done. During the past 2 years in particular Phil also project managed extensive renovations at our Club that changed the atmosphere & provided amenities for members & guests that were long overdue. He can be justifiably proud of his achievements which I might add were achieved despite his ongoing health issues. He got the job done. I am proud to have been associated with him & to call him a great friend. The accolades on Social Media is testament to just how popular he was with former work colleagues & friends. We will miss him greatly. Our thoughts & prayers are with his wife Michelle, family & friends. May he rest in peace.
