Michelle, I got to know you during my year at Nowra High as an exchange student from France and even if that was 24 years ago, I remember you so well and a conversation we had about your name! What a shock when I heard of your passing… May you rest in peace, love and prayers to the family.

Michelle, my cool cuz.
One of the closest to me in age, I have such fond memories. With parents from overseas I always felt I missed out on having many family members around. But it did make the times we shared all the more special. I remember the Watts, Farquarhson & Hanssen get together in Dalby & Brookstead. How wonderful it was to be surrounded by cousins whilst playing & yabbying & catching my ‘bubble’ which became my cherished nickname in the family.
My first plane flight, even a solo was to spend time with you & your family. I loved playing with your rabbit & chalk colouring the sand to create sand art. As well as hanging out on the beach & southern coast, catching my first waves on a board whilst dodging blue bottles and exploring The Endeavour in Sydney & forgetting which high rise car park we were parked.
Learning things were, ‘heaps good or ‘heaps cool,’ in NSW lingo.
It was special to have you up in Qld for my 18th dress up birthday bash, our backwards drive home with Trevor or in the little green frog car & subjecting you & Peter to the hard yakka or cotton chipping with 4am starts!
It was comforting to know I always had a home away from home in NSW & I loved staying with you & your children, going to the zoo, the farm, beach or playing Pass the Pigs & Spot It or on equipment in parks.
We had talked of holidays in Queensland & me being a tour guide at the Australian Open tennis with Alexis - hopefully we can still do that at some stage.
Until we meet again, I’ll always be missing a cherished cool cuz.

Memories of Michelle date to the 10 years I worked with her father, John, from the early 1980s at staff occasions and family gatherings. What a delightful and warm young person as we watched her grow throughout those years and in hight school with my daughter. Forever in our memory.

Our high school years were some of the best years of my memories. Every memory, you are there. Michelle, you were such a loyal, funny and vibrant friend. We had so many sleepovers, scary movie nights and adventures. You were so caring, so beautiful and the best friend anyone could ask for. I shouldn’t be writing this, because you should be here. I am so heartbroken that you are gone and I ache knowing that you felt so broken before you left. I wish I'd known you were in such a dark place, I wish I'd been able to help pull you out of it. Depression is such a horrible illness and I'm just heart broken that I couldn't help you. I know you are with God now, and no longer in that dark place, you are at peace. You must be the most beautiful angel.

Words cannot express how deeply sorry I am that we have lost the shining light that Michelle brought to the world. I have so many memories with Michelle in them, and your family, that I will treasure.
We first met in primary school at Nowra East, becoming fast friends, even when I ventured overseas. Then in high school we got the chance to reconnect and it was like it had always been, being friends with Shel, was special, was easy and was one of the most amazing friendships I have had.
Shel was there for me on my wedding day as my bridesmaid, she was there when my Mum passed away and we got each other through the ups and downs of parenthood, marveling in our beautiful children and laughing that our daughters shared a birthday.
I will miss this friendship so much, we understood each other, we were there for each other.
I hope in the days that come, I can be there for you all, especially Alexis and Liam, who Shel loved with a fierce passion.
