From birth Donald was an energy to be reckoned with. Right from when he started to walk he was curious and exploring his surroundings while smiling or chuckling. Did he get into mischief? The fact that both he and Robin were nicknamed Wild and Wooly probably says it all. I have many memories of his childhood, and thru-out his life – too many to share. There is a couple that I feel are significant.
His tolerance for pain was very high and was a worry for Mum and Dad as they didn’t know when he was hurt. One episode was when sitting at the table eating ice-cream it was oozing out of a hole in his cheek. He had no recollection of pain but apparently was the result of some hanky panky between him and Robin. One day us kids went on a church group picnic on the banks of one of the rivers in our area. While messing around in the river my girlfriend got caught in a deep hole so I jumped in to save her. She got out but I was swept away. Fortunately I was swept up where my feet hit gravel so was OK but there was Donald, grabbing at me and helping me up the bank. He was about 6 at the time and claimed he had saved my life. I wasn’t going to disillusion him on his heroics so we went with that.
Donald has always been there for me thru-out life. My many travels would not have occurred if not for him encouraging (insisting) I join him. His sense of humor and positive outlook made being in his company a real pleasure. Quick to laugh and fill silences with song, which I loved, and lightened any mood. He was passionate about so many things but first and foremost, was his commitment to family and friends. He would phone often with updates and to check on my well being. Those calls always “made my day” and most times left me feeling in good spirits. At other times just left me wishing I lived closer. I will miss those calls and uplifting chats.
My thoughts are with Kay, Dane, Andrea, their spouses, and the grandchildren during this sad time. Donald, I was blessed with having you for a brother and you will always be with me – a part of my soul.

We are two Brits who had the great pleasure of meeting Slim and Kay during a tour of NT and WA back in 2017. They were so generous and kind to us, offering to drive us around the Bungle Bungles when it transpired our rental vehicle wasn’t insured to go off road. We later crossed paths with them several times on the trip west to Broome and beyond. Always cheerful and always willing to crack open a beer or share their food around the camp fire, they made our trip a delight. Slim was one in a million. We are so sorry to hear of his passing.

Sending my deepest sympathies to Kay and family.
I had the pleasure of knowing Slim from the Shoalhaven Photographic Club a few years ago.
Always a smiling and happy gentleman, who shared his passion for photography with all.
It was an honour to know him and he will be missed. xx

I send my deepest sympathy to the families of Andrea, Dane, and Kay. Slim and Judy were introduced to Tom and me on our Australia visit in late '90's by Terry and Kathleen Delaney. What a serendipitous meeting because it led to a solid friendship and many great times together! They visited us in Colorado the next summer, two years later for Christmas and New Years, again with the Bices, two weeks together in Hawaii, and then they led us on fabulous guided adventures in New Zealand. Most recently Larry and I had the pleasure of Slim and Kay's Colorado visit. Slim has telephoned every Christmas for 20 years, and his amazing positive attitude and hearty laugh was even there in his bittersweet call last September "to say goodbye," Memories of Slim abound in my heart. So long, dear dear friend.

Our sincere condolences to Dane, Andrea and Kay on the passing of Slim.
I've been luck enough to know Slim my whole life. During my childhood it was running through Slim & Judy's house with Dane and Andrea, Tim and Deb playing tag. Later it was having a beer and having deep conversations on rugby with Dad and Slim. And most recently when Kay and Slim visited us in Perth and we had a lovely day reminiscing.
Slim was a person who always brought energy to any room he entered. Whether it be singing a tune, telling a joke or just revving up whatever was going on, Slim was always in the middle of it.
I'm sorry we cant get back on Sunday but will be remembering Slim over the weekend in song. I can't promise the sound will emulate what Slim could produce, but I do promise to play some John Rowles tunes and sing extra loud.
Thanks Slim for bringing joy to our lives. You will be missed.
